Anglican vs. Episcopal, what does it matter?

As many of you know, we attend an Anglican church and have since we went to Chicago 12 years ago. In that time we have learned many, many things about historical Christianity and liturgical worship. I know some along the way have wondered if we were on the way to becoming Roman Catholic, my late step-father included. I'll never forget when I was telling him about our new church in Chicago and he asked in a concerned manner, "They do teach the Bible, don't they?" I was happy to reply that yes they did and quickly put his fears at ease. I think, however, if he could hear all that was going on in our larger denomination these days he would be wondering which Bible some of the leaders in the national church are reading.
Well, today I came across a great series of videos explaining current events in our church and why things are coming to such a dramatic head right now. The videos were made by St John’s, Shaughnessy in Vancouver to help prepare their members as they faced a vote whether to leave the Canadian Anglican Church and 'realign' with a South American Anglican province. It is the same church that well-known theologian, J.I. Packer attends. Anyway, I think the videos are very well done and are better at explaining how some congregations here in the US and Canada are being enabled to take a stand for the Gospel with the help and support of brothers and sisters in Christ from the Global South. It is very humbling and encouraging to know that we need the help of these Christians from monetarily poor, but spiritually rich countries. So, if you're curious here is the first of the series to get you started:

If you are interested in learning more, follow the link to YouTube for the rest of the series; including Dr. Packer's thoughts on why the issue of homosexuality is such a sticking point.

See I read the title here and thought that maybe it was an upcoming fight. The church had decided that the only fair way to settle all this christian in-fighting was to actually put you all in a ring and let you duke it out. A last man standing contest.

In reality though if anyone actually did do that then the happy clappy shine jesus shine brigade of Pentecostals would win out because they are often the fattest christians and therefore are harder to physically knock over.

Oh I hope that when I get to heaven I am not put in a room next to a Pentecostal playing there shine jesus shine music over and over and over again.

Of course, they're probably as unaware as most Pentecostals that 'shine jesus shine' started life not as a christian praise song, but as a gay club anthem about a sweaty mexican yard worker. - Amazing but all true I swear :-)
