We made it through the first week! Ethan and Elena started at a new school, still a Spanish dual-immersion program. I was really worried they would have a hard time making the transition because their old school was much smaller than this one. As usual, it seems I worried more than I needed to. Today they both told me the names of several new friends and they seem genuinely happy to be at a school that is closer to home. They also both really like their teachers. Having the kids at a school that is MUCH closer to home and my school has been incredible. When I realize how much time we have after school now, I can't believe I was thinking about keeping them at the farther school.
Joel also started back to preschool last week. He seems to be doing pretty well, too. He did get a report home his first week back for not listening and rough housing during circle time. At first he tried to tell us that he had no idea what the teacher was talking about, but remarkably recovered some memory of what had happened when he found out he would not have desert that night until he remembered. A few days later I asked Joel if he had any time outs at school, he said he did (for not holding on to the see-saw properly) but also proudly announced that he didn't get a report. No time-outs today at all, so he's making progress!
Not only have we started school, we'll soon be adding soccer for Ethan and Joel to the schedule and once a week dance for Elena. I'm once again wondering how people do it and how I'm going to keep up this fall. Thankfully, everything is close to home and I'm hoping the schedules will mesh! So it seems that just as I'm beginning to count down the weeks until maternity leave (about eight weeks!), everything else is gearing up. Should be interesting to see how a new baby works into the mix :)
