Anthony and I felt that our TV watching was taking up more time than it should and as another way to 'prepare a place for the Lord', we decided to give up TV for the remainder of Advent (except for an occasional family movie night). We made the decision only a few days ago, but have been enjoying the results so far. Since today was the first day of Christmas vacation and I wasn't going to have any help from TV, I decided it would be a good idea to make a trip to the public library and replenish our stock.
It turned out to be the PERFECT day for a trip to the library. The weather was cool and slightly rainy and we had nothing else on the agenda. I remember the thrill of going to the library with my mom and then coming home to dive into the books I had just selected. Today I got to share that with my own kids and even got Joel his very first library card. There really is nothing quite like walking out of the library with 35 or more books to make you feel rich. We got picture books, Christmas books, and books on tape. Everyone got to pick something out. Then we came home, put on a fire and dove in! Elena and Joel have already listened to all the books on tape and read a few more. Ethan has been buried in the world of Capitan Calzoncillos (Captain Underpants). I'm looking forward to reading the The Fourth Wise Man, one of my all time favorite Christmas books.
Just wanted to share the joy of curling up next to a fire on a rainy day with a good book. Hope you get to do the same sometime soon....
